Comprehensive Plan Kick-off Meeting
March 13, 2008
Carolina First Center
Session One: 3:00 pm 5:00 pm
Session Two: 6:00 pm 8:00 pm
Members of the public had a chance to learn about the proposed update of Greenville
Countys comprehensive plan on March 13th at the Carolina First Center. Greenville County
government, through the planning department staff, provided citizens the opportunity
to learn about and sign up to become a part of the planning process to update the Countys
comprehensive plan. More than 140 citizens attended either the afternoon or evening session
and took part in the festivities. Members of County Council and the County Planning Commission
welcomed and met with the public to discuss the planning process.
Mellone Long, director of the planning department, reviewed the proposed 18-month process
and identified the many opportunities citizens would have to become involved in the plan update.
In addition, the comprehensive plan brand, "Imagine Greenville County: Tomorrows Vision Today"
was unveiled. Meeting attendees also were given the opportunity to:
- Build their own city block
- Take a visual preference survey to identify their development likes and dislikes
- Review development trends in the county over the last 10 years
- Share issues and concerns with county staff
- Sign up for citizen committees that were created to help develop the plan
Both sessions were successful and many people were able to learn about the planning
process, sign up to be a part of the process, and share some of their ideas, issues, and
concerns with the staff.
